Children of Col. Philemon Waters III
Col. Philemon Waters III married Mary Berry. It has not been proven whether it was in Virginia or Charleston, South Carolina. It is generally accepted to be South Carolina. They married ca 1758. Their children were:
1. Bordroyne Waters, born 22 February 1760: died 19 March 1760. ( Charleston Church Record )
2. Thomas John Waters, born 27 March 1763: died 9 Sept. 1770. ( Charleston Church Record)
3. Charlotte Elizabeth Waters, born 21 July 1766: died 2 October 1766. ( Charleston Church Record)
4. Sarah Waters, born 21 December 1769: died ___?. the Church Record only records her birth, so she probably died after Col. Phil moved to the up-country of South Carolina )
5. Rhoda Waters, born 1771: died 1840 -1850 in Marshall County, Mississippi. She married her cousin, William Farrow. Her children were: Richard Farrow, Charlotte Farrow, Rosanna Farrow, Nancy Farrow, Harriet Farrow, Elizabeth Farrow, Jane Farrow, Robert B. Farrow.
6. Rosannah Waters, born c 1773 in Newberry County, South Carolina. She married Col. John Summers. She died in 1840 in Newberry County, South Carolina.Her children were: Mary Summers married 1. William Griffin 2. Charles Leavell, Eleanor Summers who married Philemon Waters, son of "Ferry Phil" Waters.( Cousins), Nancy Summers married Peter Hair, Caroline Summers married 1. C. Gary 2. Peter Hair, John W. Summers, Rhoda Summers married Dr. James Kilgore. She died 1859.
7. Philemon Berry Waters " Sheriff Phil" born 3 January 1775, Newberry County, South Carolina. He married 23 April 1803 in Newberry to Sarah Gillam. He died 26 February 1808 in Newberry Town, Newberry County, South Carolina. His children were: Mary B. Waters born 21 April 1804, Robert Gillam Waters born 1805, died August 1846 in the army camp hospital in Mexico during the Mexican War. Philemon Berry Waters born 1 September 1807 after his father's death.
8. Wilkes Berry Waters, born 1783 Newberry County, South Carolina. He married in 1806 to Nancy Manning. He died in 1849 in Butler County, Alabama. His children were Rosannah Waters born 8 March 1807--married James Gregg, Philemon Berry Waters born 14 August 1808, Levi Manning Waters born 14 December 1810.
Mary Berry Waters, wife of Col. Phil died 31 October 1791 in Newberry County, South Carolina. Col. Phil married 2. Rachel Lark. In Deed Book C, Page 12 - 14, 1 August 1794, Newberry County, is a deed where Col. Phil deeds land to Rachel Lark as per their marriage contract.( Which is on record in Newberry )
In one of the history books
in Newberry this account is given of Col. Phil's death. " Col. P. Waters
took sick while in Newberry Village and was borne on a litter to his plantation
on Bush River. He died there on 29 March 1796 and was buried on his plantation.
In later years his son, Wilkes Berry Waters came on a visit from Alabama
and searched for his fatheer's grave, but alas, it had gone back to nature
and he couldn't find it."
