4---John Waters born ca 1740, the son of Philemon Waters II & his wife Sarah Bordroyne. John Waters is in Prince William County until about 1769. At this time he probably moved to Maryland. In later years one of his children's obituary states she was born in Maryland in 1773. In 1781 he applied for a land patent in Hampshire County, Virginia. He is on the Hampshire Tax Lists for 1782, 1783, 1784, 1785, 1786, 1787, 1788 1790 and 1791. We then find him in Berkley County, Virginia (now West Virginia ) on the Tax Lists for 1792, 1793, 1794. I did not find him in 1795 or 1796. However part of the Tax List could be missing or he could have been old and disabled and he was dropped from the tax rolls. He appears to have been there in 1804 when he is named in an audit of the estate of Cato Moore. In 1793 he was taxed for 269 acres of land. John married Ann and her maiden name in unknown. There children were:

1. Thomas Willoughby Waters born 14 November 1763. Died 27 August 1806 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His bible record is on this web site.

    2. William Waters born c 1768. He married Ann Law on 16 November 1794 in Berkley County, Virginia.

    3. Eleanor Waters born c 1771, probably in Maryland. She married Reason Brashere on 15 March 1792 in Berkley County, Virginia. In 1810 they were in Jessamine County, Kentucky. In 1820 they were in Gallatin County, Kentucky.

    4. Mary Ann Waters born 24 October 1773 in Maryland. She married John B. Davidson. They moved to Newberry County, South Carolina about 1801. Mary Ann Davidson died in Newberry County, South Carolina 21 September 1829. She had no children. She left a will in Newberry County, S.C.

   5. Catherine Waters born c 1775. She married George Schoppert on 25 December 1792 in Berkley County, Virginia. They moved to Newberry  County, South Carolina in 1799. Her brother Thomas Willoughby Waters had the contract to build the new Court House in Newberry and he sent for George as he was a Master Carpenter.

The 1784 Tax List of Hampshire County, Virginia indicated that John Waters had 8 children. I was unable to find the last 3 children. Research continues.
