George James Hanna was born 19 December 1833 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. He was the son of Andrew Walker Hannah and Elizabeth Rebecca Woodward. He married 1. Martha Ann Teat c 1860 2. Margaret Ann Elizabeth Sanders on 8 July 1873 in Attala County, Mississippi. His children by Martha Ann Teat were:

1. George James Hanna, born 8 June 1862 in Attala County, Mississippi. Died 1887 in Attala. He never married.

2. John William Thomas Hanna, born 7 February 1865. He died about 1920 near Greenwood, Mississippi. He had 2 children, but him and his wife separated and she took them to Maryland.

3. Savannah Hanna ( Bannie ) born 7 December 1868. She married 1. Dana Jennings 2. Mr. Hand. her children were by Dana Jennings. She died 28 December 1950 and is buried at Cunahoma Cemetery, Attala County, Mississippi.

4. Alice Hanna, born 6 January 1871. She married Weldon Joseph Hester. She died 9 August 1949 and is buried in Durant, Mississippi.

The children of George James Hanna and Margaret Ann Elizabeth Sanders were:

5. Narcissa Emaline Hanna. She married Thomas Edmond Morgan on 5 October 1893 in Attala County, Mississippi. She died 30 October 1962. Edmond died 13 April 1952. Both are buried in Kosciusko City Cemetery, Kosciusko, Mississippi.

6. Margaret Ann Hanna, born 27 January 1876. She married Josephus McKay on 8 January 1896. She had 2 children-Albert McKay and Alice McKay Williamson. She died 8 October 1901. Her and her husband both died within one week of the flu. They are buried at County Line Cemetery, Attala County, Mississippi.

7. Absalom Walker Hanna, born 29 June 1878: died 1882.

8. Robert Bruce Hanna, born 16 December 1882 in Attala County, Mississippi. He married Mable Powell Neal on 31 May 1906. He died 7 October 1966 and is buried at County Line Cemetery, Attala County, Mississippi. Mable died in 1974 and is also buried there.

9. Clarence Maine Hanna, born 30 November 1885. He married May Jowers. They had no children. He died in 1957 and is buried at County Line Baptist Cemetery, Attala County, Mississippi.
